Complete Pool Renovations

A renovation is the right call when the problems extend past the pool surface. Cracked decking, failing coping, outdated tile, aging equipment, and a worn interior finish rarely fail independently. In an Arizona pool, they tend to age on the same clock. Fixing them one at a time means paying for mobilization, drain-down, and setup again and again.

Addressing everything together means one mobilization, one schedule, and a backyard that comes back as a finished space rather than a collection of mismatched patches. Scheduling that work into Arizona's cooler months, roughly October through April, also keeps you out of the summer heat restrictions and the monsoon delays that stall finish work in July and August.

Arizona pool renovations follow a different set of rules than renovations almost anywhere else in the country, and we plan around them: what the shell can take, what the hard water has already done to the tile line, and which upgrades will actually show once the pool is full again. We're equally direct about what won't make a visible difference, because spending money on the wrong phase is worse than not spending it.

Whole‑area scope instead of piecemeal repairs

Surfaces, tile, coping, and decking addressed together

Equipment improvements handled within the same project

Tile and finish selected for hard water and UV exposure, not just appearance

One coordinated schedule and one point of contact

What's Involved

Starting From What's Already There

Renovation begins with a full assessment of the pool shell, plumbing, equipment pad, and deck condition. This determines what can be kept, what must be replaced, and where upgrades will make the biggest impact.

Once the pool is drained, the full picture becomes clear, and in older East Valley pools there's almost always something the water was hiding, whether it's a hairline crack in the shell or plumbing that's closer to the end than expected. If anything differs from the estimate, we tell you before we proceed. No quiet scope changes, no invoice surprises.

What Arizona Pool Renovations Involve

The Renovation Window Is Real

Arizona doesn't give you a renovation calendar: it gives you a season. Plaster and interior finish work can't be applied safely in extreme heat, and a monsoon storm can cancel an application day with an hour's notice. October through April is when most of our Valley renovations run, and booking into that window is usually the difference between a smooth project and a stalled one.

Hard Water & the White Line

If your pool has a chalky white band where the water meets the tile, that's calcium, and in the East Valley it's close to universal. It bonds to glass and porcelain hard enough that scrubbing won't touch it, and it will rebuild on new tile in three years if the water chemistry isn't managed. Renovation is the moment to deal with it properly, because the tile is already off.

What 1970s-to-1990s Pools Actually Need

A large share of Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, and central Phoenix pools went in during that span, and they tend to arrive at the same list: surface past its life, tile that dates the whole backyard, coping that's cracked or loose, decking that's chalky or too hot to walk on, and equipment that predates variable-speed pumps entirely. Renovating is how you address that list once instead of five times.

Renovate, Remodel, or Rebuild?

Renovation covers the whole pool area: surfaces, tile, coping, decking, equipment, and structure. Remodeling is the tighter version, focused on the pool itself. A rebuild only makes sense when the shell is genuinely compromised or the pool sits badly on the lot. We'll tell you which one you actually need after we see it, and we won't push you toward the larger project.

Details

What a Renovation Can Include

Surface & Finish Upgrades

A new interior finish in pebble, mini pebble, plaster, or quartz.

Tile & Coping

Replacement of waterline tile and worn or loose coping around the pool edge.

Decking

New or resurfaced decking designed for barefoot comfort in full Arizona sun, because deck surfaces here routinely hit 140 degrees in July.

Features & Water Elements

Water features, bubblers, and lighting added or replaced as part of the renovation scope.

Equipment Improvements

Pumps, filtration, and plumbing updates completed while the pool is already drained: a variable-speed pump alone cuts a meaningful amount off a Valley summer power bill.

Structural Repairs

Cracks and shell issues addressed before any new interior finish is applied.

Questions

Pool Renovation FAQs

Have a question that isn't answered here? Call (480) 784-7650 and we'll talk it through.

What's the difference between remodeling and renovation?

We use “remodeling” for updates focused on the pool itself — finish, tile, and features — and “renovation” for larger projects that also include coping, decking, equipment, and surrounding hardscape.

Should equipment be replaced during a renovation?

If it’s near the end of its life, yes. Replacing pumps or filtration during a renovation is far less disruptive than doing it as a separate project later.

Can a renovation change the shape of the pool?

Limited changes are sometimes possible, but major reshaping is closer to a new build in cost and complexity. We’ll give you a clear answer after seeing the pool.

How long does a full pool renovation take in Arizona?

Longer than a resurfacing: multi-trade renovations that include decking and equipment typically run several weeks, and the season affects it. Summer heat limits when finish work can be applied and monsoon can cost you days, so a fall-to-spring renovation almost always moves faster than a summer one. We give you a phase-by-phase schedule upfront.

Is a renovation worth it on a 40-year-old pool?

Often yes, as long as the shell is sound. If the structure has significant issues or the pool is poorly placed on the lot, replacement may be the better investment.

When is the best time of year to renovate a pool in Arizona?

October through April. Heat restricts when plaster and finish work can be applied, and monsoon storms between July and September regularly cancel application days. Renovating in the cooler months means a more predictable schedule and a finished pool before the first triple-digit stretch in May.

Do Arizona pools need renovating sooner than pools in other states?

In general, yes. Arizona's sun, heat, and hard water put every exposed surface through more in a year than most climates do in two. That's why the East Valley's 1970s-to-1990s pool stock tends to need this work now rather than later, and why condition, not the year on the permit, is what we look at first.
